Heroes in Education - Nominations STILL Open!

Don't forget to nominate a Hero in Education! It is often the case in education that staff work tirelessly to have a positive impact on the lives of students, but in the end, they still wonder if they made a real difference in someone's life. That is why it is SO important to share your story of the positive impact a staff member had on YOU by nominating a hero in education! A hero may be any staff member that works for the school district in any capacity and has positively impacted the life of a student, staff member, or community member. You can find the nomination form on the front page of DNUSD.org.

    Sports Update

Last Friday the DNHS Warriors Football Varsity team played against San Marin High in the Division finals but were not victorious. Even though we lost the division, the Warriors had a 10-2 record and took the H-DNL Big 4 crown. Great job Warriors.

Crescent Elk Auditorium Renovation Grand Opening

Also last Friday, many from around the community attended the Crescent Elk Renovation Grand Opening and enjoyed a variety of performances from our students, a local Jazz Quintet, and the saxophone prodigy, Jacob Scesney, from the popular band Postmodern Jukebox. During that event the development of a brand new performing arts center for our community was announced. You will definitely be hearing more about this as time goes on, and we are all very excited to watch this unfold.

    COVID-19 Update

For our COVID-19 update, last week the Del Norte Public Health Officer, issued modified masking orders that allow for weekly testing in place of masking, when actively participating in indoor sporting events. You can find the entire order on the front page of DNUSD.org.  CDPH also issued additional updates to indoor sports and music just before Thanksgiving, and we’ll be getting clarification on those mandates in the upcoming days.

In addition to everything else happening within our district, we are still dealing with COVID.  To find the most recent information and metrics by school site on COVID-19 positive cases, please visit dnusd.org/familyresources and click the “COVID-19 Dashboard.” Likewise, to see our county data, you can visit covid19.dnco.org.

That's it for this week’s update, we hope you have a great day and we will see you next week.

As part of our Heroes in Education campaign that highlights our classified and certificated staff. During that series, we recorded two podcasts each week focusing on different job families within our district and the county office of education. COVID-19 Update - Masking & Indoor Sports

For our COVID-19 update, Last Thursday night during the school board meeting, Dr. Aaron Stutz, DN Public Health Officer, presented the CDPH masking guidelines for indoor sports, which included the masking of all participants, regardless of activity.  Dr. Stutz fielded questions from school board members and heard comments from the public regarding the uses and impacts of masks when actively participating in indoor sports, such as basketball.  Dr. Stutz responded to the concerns discussed at the board meeting by working over the weekend to issue modified masking orders that allow for weekly testing in place of masking, when actively participating in indoor sports, and that encourage vaccinations and enhanced testing for those participating in unmasked sporting events. You can find the entire order on the front page of DNUSD.org.
