  • National Weather Service Weather Warning 1/30/2024

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you may be aware, the National Weather Service has issued a HIGH WIND & RAIN WARNING effective from 7 PM this evening until 1 PM PST Wednesday. They anticipate strong southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, particularly affecting Coast Del Norte County.

Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of students. Given the forecasted conditions, which may include downed trees and power lines leading to widespread power outages and potentially challenging travel conditions, we want to inform you about the impact on school operations.

    1. Schools Will Remain Open if Buses Can Run: Schools will be open as long as buses are able to operate safely and food can be prepared for students. We are closely monitoring the situation and will assess the weather and road conditions early in the morning.
    2. Communication in Case of Power Outages: In the event of a power outage, please stay informed by listening to KCRE 94.3 FM radio for up-to-date information. Additionally, if necessary, we will send emails, text messages and make phone calls to provide information on the status of school operations.
    3. Road Closures: In the morning, please drive safely and allow more time to travel. If you’re unable to take your children to their usual school due to road closures, please inform their school immediately and seek guidance from the school office on alternative arrangements. If alternative arrangements cannot be made, your children will be eligible for an excused absence due to hazardous driving conditions.
    4. Preparing for School Attendance: Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these challenging weather conditions. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and make decisions with the safety and well-being of our students and staff in mind.

    Stay safe and warm,

Mrs. Diane Wiese

Welcome to Bess Maxwell School!

I am very excited to be a part of the Bess Maxwell team!

This is my 26th year in education and 11th year as an administrator.  I have been a teacher/administrator at Joe Hamilton School, Margaret Keating School, Mountain School, Smith River School and now Bess Maxwell.

I was born and raised here in Crescent City and am very proud to call our community home.  After graduating from Del Norte High School, I served for three years on active duty in the Army and six years in the Air National Guard.

We here at Bess Maxwell want families to be involved in the education of their children.

The Bess Maxwell staff are a warm and welcoming group of people and I look forward to working with you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at 464-0310.

Diane Wiese, Principal
