March 11, 2022

Dear Warrior Families:

I want to reach out to you to share some DNHS information and to ask for your help.

CDPH, Masks, and COVID: Monday, March 14, DNHS students and staff will no longer be required to wear masks in classrooms and indoors. Masks are still strongly recommended. DNHS will have masks available to students and staff should they request them.

Athletics: Spring sports have taken to the courts, the fields, the track and the links. Good luck to all spring student athletes. As a reminder, eligibility is a 2.0 GPA with no more than one F. The date of determination will be April 7, when grades post to transcripts. Help your student athlete remain academically eligible. For the 2022/23 school year, sports physicals and the sports packet will be required before the start of play for all student athletes.

Important Dates:

  • March 18: Seniors: Del Norte Scholarship Foundation application deadline
  • March 21: Teacher work day; no school for all DNUSD students
  • March 25: Seniors: Yearbook photos, senior quotes, and ads are due to Mr. Gastineau.
  • March 28: 2022 registration forms sent home with student. Parent/guardian signature required.
  • April 1: End of quarter 3 grading period. Transcripts will be updated with credits.
  • April 11-15: Spring Vacation, no school
  • April 18: Seniors: Jim Grauel from Ultimate Grad visits for cap and gown ordering.
  • ELPAC testing: Now through May 31.
  • CAASPP state testing for juniors: May 16-26
  • May 27-30: Memorial Day -- 4 day holiday, no school
  • June 13-16: Minimum Days; release time of 1:15
  • June 17: Graduation, 6:00 pm at Mike Whalen Field

Punctuality and Attendance: Arriving to class on time is important because the first ten minutes establishes the routine for the day, builds a trusting relationship with peers and teacher, and demonstrates respect for yourself and others. The habit of being on time builds career and college ready skills.

Vaping: Possessing vapes, tobacco, or marijuana are illegal for all people under the age of 21. We are asking for your help; some students are creating an unsafe environment for others. Talk to your child and consider participating in a round table discussion with me on March 30, 2022 at 6:00 pm on zoom. RSVP: 464-0274 for the zoom link.

Respect: The Warrior Way at DNHS is all about respect. Respect yourself, respect others, and respect this place. Recently we have been suffering through vandalism of our bathrooms and buildings. We issue discipline on those vandalism culprits, but sometimes they elude us. Again, talk to your child and help us foster a sense of respect. Lastly, students are not to trespass on the College of the Redwoods campus or on the private property next to the soccer field at any time.

Thank you for your help.
