Applying to Become a Substitute - First Step
If this is your FIRST time applying for a position with Del Norte Schools via EdJoin, you must first REGISTER.
After you have registered with an account on EdJoin, you must apply for Qualifying Examinations.
Exams are held 4 times a year. For the 2017/18 School Year, please check the HR web page to see dates.
After you apply for the Qualifying Examinations on EdJoin, you will receive an email within one week, with details as to when and where the examination will occur.
In order to substitute, you must also:
Obtain Fingerprint Clearance - All fingerprints are done here at the Human Resources Office. Please bring your social security card and drivers licenses. The cost for fingerprints is $50.00, payable by check or cash to Del Norte Unified School District.
Obtain a TB Test - Places to obtain a TB test:
- Del Norte School Health Services Department every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 7:30 - 10:00 am, located @ Two Trees, 544 W. Harding St, (464-0751)
Complete New Employee Paperwork - obtained in the Human Resources office at 301 W. Washington Blvd., Crescent City
After you have taken and passed a qualifying examination, obtained Fingerprint clearance, obtained a clear TB test, and completed the necessary paperwork, you will be qualified to substitute. Depending on which Qualifying Examination you took, the following or the positions you are qualified to substitute for. (Note: The main headings are the Qualifying Exams and the sub (bullet points) titles, are the positions you can substitute in.

- High School Registrar
- Secretary I
- Secretary II
- School Secretary
- High School Office Coordinator
- Crossing Guard
- Student Activity Monitor
- Instructional Asst. (all programs)
- Behavior Intervention Asst.
- Food Service Assistant
Early Childhood Education
- ECE Assistant
- ECE Specialist (requires a Teacher Permit issued by CTC)
