"Equipping Students for Success"

    August 18, 2021

Greetings DN Community School Students and Families,

We are excited to welcome you back to a new school year.  School begins on Monday, August 30, 2021 with all students in attendance, 5 days per week.  School hours will be 8:30-1:30 each day with breakfast being served at 8:00 a.m. for those who wish to eat.

With ongoing concerns around COVID and guidance from state and county health officials we will be practicing several COVID Safety Measures:

    • Masks are required for all students and staff on campus. We will provide masks to those who need one.
    • Hand sanitizer stations are in each classroom as well as at the school entrance and near the restrooms.
    • Visitors to campus will also be required to wear a mask while on campus.
    • Families will continue to monitor student health each day before sending them to school.

I want to remind everyone of the importance of attending school everyday.  Countless studies confirm that students who miss even 10% of school (just 2 days per month) are more likely to fall behind, suffer poor grades and have a higher risk of not graduating from high school.  Success is showing up and engaging.  DNCS will be hosting attendance incentive activities during the first 20 days of school and beyond with raffles for students that attend and prizes drawn for families that support attendance.

This year we will have our Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 15th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Come and meet your teachers, learn about our program and get your questions answered.  We will also have refreshments and snacks for you that evening.  We will update you if changes need to be made to this.

Our office is now open so if you have any questions, feel free to call 464-0750. We look forward to having you all back on campus!

    Go Ospreys!

Hands, Face, Space, and Home - Help Keep Del Norte Open

There are many perspectives on COVID-19 in our community, but we must ask that we all work together, in order to keep our schools open.

Schools in California are subject to state and local law and Public Health mandates. In order for our schools to remain open, we must meet the requirements set forth by those institutions.

That is why we also ask that you remember the following:
    Hands, Face, Space, and Home
Wash your hands, wear your mask, physically distance, and stay at home if you’re sick.

If you travel out of the area or host visitors from out of the area and have children in Del Norte Schools, the District asks that you keep your children home for 14 days after you return from travel or your guests leave. We recommend that you request independent study for any school days that your child may miss.

    It’s in everyone’s interest, to help #KeepDNopen.

Remember - Hands, Face, Space, and Home

This is not forever, just for now.

Keep DN Open Wash Hands Cover Face Give Space Stay Home when sick

Welcome to Del Norte Community School, Home of the Ospreys!

We believe all students are capable of success. Our goal is to identify and address the needs and strengths of each student in a safe, respectful academic environment. We encourage students to pursue their academic goals with their individual interests in mind. At Community School, daily attendance is extremely important, homework is available for all students, and good behavior is expected by everyone.

School attendance is mandatory until the age of 18, and many of our students have attendance contracts. There are direct correlations between school attendance, student performance, and success. With instructional time of only 4 hours per day, full-time attendance is very important for students to work with teachers and staff. If your student is going to miss school, please call office staff or make arrangements for independent study school work.

Students work on a variety of subjects each day, and homework assignments are available. All students work at their own pace. Assignments can and should be done outside of school hours. A student is never truly done with their work until they have a diploma.

Behavior and attendance are common reasons for students to attend Del Norte Community School. Our school is designed to provide individualized support with behavior, social and emotional skills and of course, academics. As all schools in the County and District, our three main rules are to be safe, respectful, and responsible. Additionally, this is a closed campus. An initial enrollment meeting is required to attend Community School. Individual needs concerning behavior and academics are addressed and goals are set during the initial enrollment meeting.
