SAEBRS Screener Information for Families
DNUSD is committed to supporting every student’s academic and social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Part of our shared goals for Del Norte students is to be able to regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. As part of this process, all students in 2nd-12th grade will complete a screener this winter and spring called the SAEBRS, or Social, Academic, Emotional, Behaviors Risk Screener. The screener will ask students a total of 20 questions. The student’s teacher will also complete the screener based on their observations of the students in their classrooms. The information is confidential and will only be used by your child’s teacher, principal, school counselor, and designated district staff to determine instructional needs in the classroom and at the individual student level. All information will remain confidential in keeping with the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.

Mrs. Nicole Cochran
Welcome, Bienvenido, Daa-naa∼-yash to Smith River Elementary School,
First, I would like to say that it is a privilege to be the principal of this school. I am currently in my 14th year as an educator at Del Norte Schools. I have appreciatively worked as a teacher and administrator at Smith River Elementary School and at Crescent Elk Middle School. Before my career in education, I proudly served 10 years in the Armed Forces. I am a mother of three children, one of whom graduated 8th grade from Smith River. Therefore, I can truly say that this school is filled with amazing staff, students, and family members, who work hard to support student learning through excitement, curiosity, exploration, and growth.
The Smith River community is truly a special place to raise a child. We welcome parent involvement in educating their children. Children are more successful if parents and the school work as a team to support student learning. We offer a variety of ways for you to be involved in your child’s education. Please come in to find out how you can become a volunteer at Smith River.
As a staff, we are warm and welcoming to all and provide children with the love and respect that you would give your own children. I look forward to getting to know all of you and if ever you need help with your child’s education, I want to remind you that I am here to serve you and I have an open-door policy when needed.
