Update to the Community 9-23-2024
Good afternoon. I'm Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte County, and today, we are kicking off our video updates for this school year. This is the update for the week of September 23, 2024.
To start, I hope that this has been a great start to the year for everyone. Classrooms are buzzing with energy and hallways are filled with the excitement of students. Our staff has been working diligently to create engaging and supportive learning environments, and we’ve heard many reports of the positive impact that their efforts have had since the beginning of school.
I’d like to thank parents, guardians, and family members, too, for your continued support of your child’s education. Your involvement is critical to the success of your child as a student, and we encourage you to stay connected by getting involved in school activities and keeping in contact with your child’s teacher.
Dates to Remember
With that in mind, I'd like to remind you that parent-teacher conferences for grades K-8 are scheduled from Monday, October 14th, through Friday, October 18th. Over the next few weeks, your child's school will reach out to schedule a meeting with you. If you do not hear from them before the week of October 14th, we encourage you to contact your child's school office. Please note that the entire week will be minimum days for K-8 students.
School Safety and Security
As you may already know, the safety and security of our students and staff are our top priorities at Del Norte Unified School District and the Del Norte County Office of Education. Over the past few years, we've focused on expanding our policies, procedures, and systems that support safe schools. While our school staff have done amazing work in this regard, we still need your help. Nothing can replace a collaborative environment between school and home.
We want to ensure every household knows how to share any concerns you may have with our school district administration. By visiting dnusd.org/tip, you have the opportunity to submit an anonymous message directly to us, which is often one of the best ways to communicate concerns. We take all messages submitted very seriously. Creating an environment where children feel safe is essential for effective education, and this is one of the ways you can help us achieve that.
DNUSD Board Meeting
I also want to remind everyone about the upcoming District Board Meeting scheduled for this Thursday, September 26th. The meeting will begin at 4:30 PM. For those who can't make it in person, you can always join us through Zoom. To access the meeting remotely or see the full agenda, please visit dnusd.org/agenda.
