AFTER ACTION REPORT 1/7/2025
This is an after-action report on this morning’s lockdown at Bess Maxwell Elementary, Del Norte High, Castle Rock Charter, Del Norte Community School, and Crescent Elk.
Out of an abundance of caution, some of these schools were placed on lockdown following an unsubstantiated report of an armed individual near the College of the Redwoods, off school grounds. Law enforcement responded immediately, cleared the area, confirmed there was no threat, and deemed the reports not credible after investigating the facts. The lockdown has since been lifted for all schools.
We understand you may have questions about why families were not notified during this false alarm. The situation developed and resolved very quickly. By the time the initial notification about the lockdown was ready to be sent, law enforcement had already cleared the area and confirmed it was safe to lift the lockdown, as well as deeming the incident not credible. We did not want to induce unnecessary confusion or chaos since the situation had been quickly resolved, and students were safe.
Please know that families will be notified immediately in the event of an actual emergency. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
We would like to personally thank law enforcement for their swift response and our students, staff, and community for working together during times like these.
UPDATE: LOCKDOWN LIFTED FOR DEL NORTE SCHOOLS | 1/7/2025 @ 12:25 PM
Law enforcement has patrolled and cleared the area following reports of an armed individual near the College of the Redwoods. No evidence of an armed individual was found on or near any school campuses.
The lockdown at Del Norte High School, Bess Maxwell Elementary, Castle Rock Charter, and Del Norte Community School has been lifted, and normal school operations have resumed.
Law enforcement will continue to monitor the situation and maintain a presence in the area to ensure the safety of our school communities. We appreciate the swift response of law enforcement and the cooperation of students, staff, and families during this precautionary measure.
LOCKDOWN UPDATE FOR DEL NORTE COUNTY SCHOOLS 1/7/2025
This morning, at 11:45 AM, Del Norte High School, Bess Maxwell Elementary, Castle Rock Charter, and Del Norte Community School were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution after a report of an individual with a firearm near the College of the Redwoods, off-school grounds.
Law enforcement is actively responding and clearing the area. There is no confirmed threat to any school campus, and all students and staff are safe.
We remain in close contact with law enforcement and will provide updates as we learn more. Parents are asked to avoid coming to schools to ensure safety and allow responders to work efficiently.
The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We thank law enforcement and our school communities for their cooperation during this time.
