Hello, I am Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte. This is the update for the week of October 20, 2025.

Dates to Remember

I want to start by reminding you that Monday, November 3rd, there will be no school due to a professional development day for all certificated staff.

I also want to remind everyone that the Board meeting this Thursday will take place at O’ Me-nok Learning Center in Klamath, beginning at 4:30.

Native American Heritage Month

I also want to let you know that November 1st marks the beginning of Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich history of our local tribes. Throughout the month, our schools will participate in educational activities and lessons designed to build appreciation for native peoples and to highlight the deep cultural heritage of the tribes in Del Norte County.

Hmong New Year

Also in November, you are invited to participate in the Hmong New Year celebration. On Saturday, November 8, kicking off at 10 AM, the Hmong New Year celebration will take place at Crescent Elk! This annual event is an incredible way to honor the past year and welcome new beginnings with family, friends, and neighbors. Celebrate and appreciate Hmong traditions, culture, and history through delicious food, vibrant cultural performances, and a variety of festivities and games. We hope to see you there for a day filled with connection and celebration!

Sports Update

It’s a full week ahead for our Del Norte Warriors! On Tuesday, October 21, the Girls Tennis team travels to St. Bernard’s for a 3:30 p.m. match, while Varsity Girls Soccer hosts South Fork at 4:00 p.m. at Del Norte. Volleyball will also take on Eureka at home that evening, with the Freshman team playing at 4:00 p.m., JV at 5:30 p.m., and Varsity at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 22, Boys Soccer heads to Arcata, with Varsity kicking off at 4:00 p.m. and JV playing afterward. The excitement continues Friday night as Warrior Football hosts Fortuna — JV starts at 5:00 p.m. and Varsity takes the field at 7:30 p.m.
Wrapping up the week, on Saturday, October 25, Girls Tennis travels to McKinleyville for a 10:00 a.m. match. Back home, Varsity Girls Soccer faces St. Bernard’s at 1:00 p.m., followed by Varsity Boys Soccer at 3:00 p.m. Let’s be sure to show our Warrior pride by cheering on our student athletes.
