Update to the Community 10/6/2025

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for Monday, October 6, 2025.

Dates to Remember
I want to start by reminding parents that next week, Monday through Friday, October 13th to 17th, all K–8 schools will have minimum-day schedules for parent-teacher conferences. Teachers are contacting families to set meeting times. If you haven’t heard from your child’s teacher and would like to meet, please call your school office.

Mass Notification Outage 10/6/2025 @ 8:30 AM
In the first of our updates, you may have already heard that earlier today, our family and community phone, text, and email mass notification system experienced an outage due to an issue with the service provider. In the event that communication systems are unavailable in the future, we will share important updates through local radio, the district and school websites, and official social media channels.

Budget Forum Committee Meeting 10/16/2025
I’d also like to share that during our most recent budget meeting, meaningful and constructive discussions were held between board members, staff, and community participants about how the Del Norte Unified School District operates and manages its budget.

By request, we’ll share a presentation at the next Budget Forum Committee meeting, on Thursday, October 16, at 5:30 PM, outlining the differences between the Del Norte Unified School District and the Del Norte County Office of Education, from governance to budgets. The meeting will take place in person at the district office in the board room. All are welcome to attend, participate, ask questions, and learn more about how schools function in Del Norte County.

Board Meetings
This Thursday, October 9, we have our regularly scheduled board meetings. The County meeting will begin at 3:00 PM in open session. The District meeting will begin at 3:30 PM with a closed session immediately following. The meeting will reconvene to open session at 4:30 PM. You can attend the meeting in person or participate through Zoom. To view the agenda and find the Zoom link, please visit DNUSD.org/agenda.

I also want to remind everyone about the location of the upcoming board meeting on Thursday, October 23. This meeting will take place in Klamath at the ‘O Me-nok Learning Center as part of the Board of Trustees’ commitment to the outlying schools throughout the county. Community members are encouraged to attend in person or through Zoom.

Sports Update
Finally, it’s another action-packed week for our Del Norte Warriors.
On Tuesday, October 7, Girls’ Tennis will travel to Arcata for a 3:30 PM match. Volleyball will host Fortuna at Del Norte High with JV starting at 5:30 PM and Varsity at 6:30 PM. Meanwhile, Varsity Girls’ Soccer will be on the road at South Fork, with their match beginning at 6:00 PM.

On Wednesday, October 8, Girls’ Golf will play at the Beau Pre Golf Course at 11:00 AM, while Cross Country competes in Eureka at 4:00 PM. Also that afternoon, Varsity Boys’ Soccer will host Eureka at Del Norte High School at 4:00 PM.

Then, on Thursday, October 9, Volleyball will take on Arcata at Del Norte High with the Freshmen match at 4:00 PM, JV at 5:30 PM, and Varsity at 6:30 PM. On Friday, October 10, Del Norte Football will host Eureka at Mike Whalen Field for their homecoming games - JV kicks off at 5:00 PM, followed by Varsity at 7:00 PM.

Wrapping up the week, on Saturday, October 11, Girls’ Tennis will host North Coast Prep at Del Norte High at 10:00 AM. Later in the day, Varsity Boys’ Soccer will play Fortuna at home at 1:00 PM, while Varsity Girls’ Soccer will be on the road in Eureka, also beginning at 1:00 PM.

That’s it for this update. Have a great week, and we’ll see you next time.

Thank you!
