The last Superintendents Message of January
Good afternoon, I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent for Del Norte Schools, and this is the update for the week of January 27, 2025.
Dates to Remember
First, I would like to remind you to mark your calendars because there will be no school on Friday, February 14, or Monday, February 17, in honor of Lincoln’s Birthday and Presidents’ Day.
Spelling Bee
Also, I want to invite you to join us for our county-wide Annual Spelling Bee, on February 25, at 6 PM at Crescent Elk Auditorium. This event showcases the dedication and academic excellence of our students as they vie for the title of spelling champion. Additionally, our champions will have the opportunity to represent our county at the state spelling bee in April, hosted by the San Joaquin County Office of Education in Stockton.
LCAP Community Input Session
Well, it's that time of year again to review the local control and accountability plan or LCAP. We have our first LCAP Community Input Session on Wednesday, February 5, at 5 PM over Zoom. This meeting is an important opportunity for the community to engage and provide feedback on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is a critical tool used by school districts to set goals, plan actions, and leverage resources to meet those goals and improve student outcomes. Your input will help guide any changes we make to the LCAP for the upcoming school year. For access to the Zoom link, please visit dnusd.org/lcap.
Tip Line
I also want to take a moment to thank the community members and staff who notified us about the vandalism that occurred at Bess Maxwell School last Monday, and I want to thank our maintenance team for their quick response to fix the problem. In case you are not aware, anyone can give us a tip about any situation, from vandalism to bullying to safety concerns. To leave a tip either with your contact information or anonymously, you can visit dnusd.org/tip or download the DNUSD app on Google Play or iTunes.
Registration Now Open for the Inaugural Building Bridges Family Summit
Registration is now open for our first annual Building Bridges Family Summit, set to take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Crescent Elk Middle School from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. This event, the first of its kind in our community, is hosted by the Del Norte County Office of Education and is designed to foster learning and stronger connections within our community. It offers a full schedule of activities tailored to the needs of our families and is free of charge.
I’d encourage our families and all members of our community to attend. Together we can help bridge the gap between home and school.
You can register at dnusd.org/summit to save your spot as space may be limited.
