Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of Feb 23, 2026.

Dates to Remember
I want to start by reminding everyone that Spring Break is coming quickly. There will be no school from Monday, March 30, through Monday, April 6, due to a scheduled staff development day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 7.

Family Summit
I also want to let you know that this Saturday, February 28, the Del Norte County Office of Education is proud to host the 2nd Annual Building Bridges Family Summit at Crescent Elk Middle School from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This free, family-focused event brings together parents, students, and community partners for a day of learning, connection, and support. Families will have the opportunity to attend up to three workshops, hear from keynote speaker Ann León, enjoy lunch provided by Sea Front Baking Co., and participate in fun student activities. Registration is nearly full, though a limited number of spots may still be available for interested families. Community vendors will also be on site, and attending families will receive a free emergency go bag while supplies last. Families who would like to register can visit dnusd.org/summit We look forward to seeing our community come together for this valuable event.

Tiny House Auction
We’re excited to invite our community to the upcoming DNHS “Warrior Made” Tiny Home Auction on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 AM at Del Norte High School. This impressive tiny home was designed and built by our Building & Construction Trades students, showcasing the real-world, hands-on learning happening in our Career Technical Education programs. The home will be open for public viewing on March 6 from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM and again on March 7 from 9:00–10:45 AM. Proceeds from the auction directly support future student-built projects, helping expand meaningful career pathways and opportunities for Del Norte students. Learn more at dnhigh.org/tinyhome

Preschool, TK, and Kindergarten Registration Open
Registration is now open for Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten in Del Norte Unified. We recognize that starting school is an important milestone for families, and our staff is available to support parents and caregivers throughout the enrollment process. Families enrolling for the first time or those just needing enrollment forms can find those forms, as well as detailed information on the registration process at dnusd.org/register. If you need additional support just give us a call or stop by. We look forward to welcoming your child to our schools.

DNUSD & DNCOE Board Meetings
A special Del Norte County Office of Education Board meeting and the regularly scheduled Del Norte Unified School District Board meeting will be held this Thursday, February 26. The County Office of Education meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m. The District Board will enter closed session at 3:30 p.m. and reconvene in open session at 4:30 p.m. Both meetings will be available to watch online via Zoom. In-person participation is also available in the boardroom at the District Office, located at 301 W. Washington Blvd., Crescent City. Agendas and Zoom links are available at dnusd.org/agenda

Sports Update
Finally, Warrior athletics continue this week with postseason wrestling and the start of spring competition. From Thursday, February 26, through Saturday, February 28, our Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Wrestling teams will compete at the CIF State Championship in Bakersfield, representing Del Norte High School on the state stage.

Spring sports also get underway this weekend. On Friday, February 27, JV Softball will travel to Fortuna for the Softball Jamboree beginning at 10:00 AM, and on Saturday, February 28, Varsity Softball will also be competing in the Fortuna Softball Jamboree starting at 10:00 AM. Also on Saturday, February 28, JV Baseball will be in McKinleyville for a doubleheader against Eureka and McKinleyville, with games beginning at 12:30 PM. We wish all of our student-athletes the best of luck this week and thank our community for supporting Warrior athletics.

That’s it for this update. We’ll see you next week. Thank you.
