Superintendents update Message to the community. Click here to learn more.
Good afternoon, I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of April 14, 2025.
Dates to Remember
First, I want to remind everyone that this Friday, April 18, is a district-wide minimum day. Additionally, there will be no school on Monday, April 21, due to a staff development day.
ELOP Summer Program Registration
This is also the last week to sign up for our summer program! Registration for our Expanded Learning, or ELOP, Summer Program closes this Friday, April 18. Once it’s closed, that’s it. So don’t wait!
The program will run June 16–July 11, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The program will be closed on June 19 & July 4 for holiday observances. Kids will enjoy breakfast, lunch, field trips, engaging activities, and tons of summer fun. Secure your spot now at dnusd.org/summer and give your child a summer to remember!
Kamome Festival
We had a great time at the Kamome Festival this past Friday! Our third and fifth grade students enjoyed a meaningful field trip focused on emergency preparedness and Japanese culture. All participating students received a red emergency preparedness bag and information about making a family emergency plan. Please take some time to talk with your child, no matter their age, about what your family has planned in the event of a local emergency. The evening “Taste of Japan” event was a big hit, with strong community turnout and proceeds supporting Del Norte High’s Japan Club. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the Japan Club—your involvement helps keep our student exchanges with Rikuzentakata going strong!
Spring Performances
Mark your Calendars! We have a wonderful lineup of spring performances throughout our district, beginning tomorrow, April 15, at 6:00 PM with All County Music Night at Del Norte High. Next, on April 29 at 5:30 PM, Smith River will hold its Spring Concert, followed by Bess Maxwell’s Spring Concert on May 1 at 5:00 PM and Pine Grove’s Spring Concert on May 1 at 6:00 PM. On May 6 at 6:00 PM, Mary Peacock will present its Music Concert for Preschool–2nd grades, and Del Norte High School’s Dance Concert will run May 15–17 at 7:00 PM. Mary Peacock’s Music Concert for 3rd–5th grades will be on May 20 at 6:00 PM, with Mountain School’s Spring Concert set for May 28 at 6:00 PM, and finally Crescent Elk’s Spring Concert on May 29 at 5:00 PM. We hope you will join us in celebrating the talent and hard work of our students at these exciting events.
DNHS Sports Update
Finally, we have another exciting week of Warriors sports! Today, the Boys’ Tennis team hosts North Coast Prep at Del Norte High at 3:30 PM, then travels to McKinleyville tomorrow for another 3:30 PM match. On Wednesday, the Track & Field team holds its second league meet at Del Norte High, while Varsity Baseball and Softball head to McKinleyville for 4:00 PM games. Thursday features the Boys’ Golf team teeing off at 11:00 AM at Del Norte Golf Course, and Boys’ Tennis traveling to Fortuna for a 3:30 PM start. On Saturday, the Boys’ Tennis team hosts Eureka at 10:00 AM, while Varsity Softball and Varsity Baseball face Eureka in doubleheaders at Del Norte High, starting at 11:00 AM.
Best of luck, Warriors, and remember, you can always find details on upcoming events at dnhigh.org/sports.
That’s it for this week’s update. See you next week.
