Click for the Superintendent's Update to the Community for 4/13/2026.

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of April 13, 2026.

Kamome Festival
Get ready for an exciting week as the Kamome Festival is officially underway. Students from across Del Norte will have the opportunity to learn about tsunami safety and preparedness, to meet many of our local first responders, and to get to know more about our Sister City, Rikuzentakata, Japan and Japanese culture. . . and that’s just this Friday. Every day and evening this week, through Saturday, April 18, the festival will feature activities and events that honor the story of Kamome — a connection between two cities thousands of miles apart, yet united through a shared disaster that has become a symbol of hope for both communities. This relationship was begun by students, and they continue to be the central focus of our efforts, with over 30 students from Del Norte High traveling to Japan over the past ten years. We hope you will join us. For more information, visit kamomefestival.com

Bond Information Survey
Del Norte Unified School District is sharing a Bond Information Survey with the community to better understand what you need or would like to know in order to be better informed about what a school bond is and the variety of topics related to it. Before deciding whether to pursue a bond, the School Board would like to hear from the community about which bond-related information they would most like to learn. As part of this effort, the district has launched the survey and an informational page at dnusd.org/bond, where community members can find background information and updates. Our plan is to gather community input and then to share that information back with the community to help ensure future conversations meet your needs and are grounded in clear, transparent information.

Del Norte High School Sports Update
And as always, it’s a busy week for Del Norte High School athletics. Today, Boys Golf is competing at Ukiah Valley Golf Course, and Tuesday, Boys Tennis travels to Eureka for a 3:30 p.m. match. On Wednesday, Track and Field heads to Fortuna for the league meet, while Varsity Baseball and Varsity Softball both host McKinleyville at 4 p.m. Saturday closes out the week with Track and Field on the road in Oregon, Varsity Baseball traveling to Eureka for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m., and Varsity Softball hosting Eureka here at Del Norte High for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Best of luck to all of our student-athletes this week.

That’s it for this update. We’ll see you next Monday.

Thank you.
