Update to the Community 4/7/2025

Good afternoon, I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of April 7, 2025.

Dates to Remember
First, I want to remind everyone that Friday, April 18, is a district-wide minimum day. Additionally, there will be no school on Monday, April 21, due to a staff development day.

ELOP Summer Program Registration
Time is running out! Registration for our Summer Program is open for a little over one more week, closing on April 18. Once it closes, that’s it— so don’t miss your chance to sign up!

The program runs from June 16 through July 11, Monday through Friday (with no program on June 19 or July 4), from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Each day features breakfast, lunch, supper, field trips, activities, and plenty of fun.

Register now at dnusd.org/summer and give your children a summer they’ll never forget!

Kamome Festival
We’re excited to share that this Friday, many of our students will participate in the Kamome Festival—a celebration of international friendship, cultural exchange, and learning. This field trip offers a great educational opportunity, focusing on both Japanese culture and the importance of emergency preparedness.

In addition to the student field trip, the Kamome Festival features events throughout the week, including “A Taste of Japan” on Friday evening. All festival fundraisers benefit Del Norte High School’s Japan Club and help support future exchange opportunities with our sister city, Rikuzentakata. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at the festival!

DNUSD Board Meetings
This Thursday, April 10, we have our regularly scheduled district and county board meetings. The County Office open session begins at 3:00 PM, followed by a District closed session at 3:30 PM, and then the District reconvenes for an open session at 4:30 PM. You can attend these meetings in person or watch them via Zoom. To view the agenda and find the Zoom link, please visit DNUSD.org/agenda.

DNHS Sports Update
Finally, we have another exciting week of Warriors sports!

On Tuesday, April 8, the Boys Tennis team hosts North Coast Prep from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at Del Norte, followed on Wednesday by a trip to Eureka for a 3:30 PM match. Also on Wednesday, the Del Norte High Track & Field team travels to McKinleyville for their first league meet. On Thursday, the Boys Golf team tees off at Beau Pre Golf Course at 11:00 AM, Varsity Softball plays in Brookings at 4:00 PM, and the Boys Tennis team takes on Arcata at Del Norte High beginning at 3:30 PM.

Friday brings the Warrior Twilight Track & Field event at Del Norte High and a 3:30 PM away match for the Tennis team against St. Bernard’s. Heading into the weekend, on Saturday, Track & Field competes in the Roseburg invite, while the Tennis team travels to Ferndale for their match starting at 10:00 AM. Also on Saturday, the Varsity Softball and Baseball teams head to Fortuna for doubleheaders beginning at 11:00 AM.

Good luck warriors, and remember, you can always find details on upcoming events at dnhigh.org/sports.

That’s it for this week’s update. We'll see you next week.
