Superintendents' Update to the community. Click here to learn more.

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for May 12, 2025.

Dates to Remember

I’d like to start by reminding everyone that Friday, May 23, and Monday, May 26, there will be no school in observance of Memorial Day Weekend.

E3 Summer Program

I also want to let you know that May 23 is also the deadline for applications for our upcoming E3 Program. The E3 Program— which stands for Experience, Education, and Employment—is a summer work program available to current sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Participants can earn a paycheck and up to 10 elective credits over the summer.

Applications are available at the DNHS Counseling Office, the main offices at Castle Rock, Sunset, and Community School, as well as at the SMART Workforce Center (875 5th Street). Again, the deadline to apply is May 23.

For further information, you can visit the “E3 Summer Youth Program” page on Facebook or email Sunset High Principal Fabricius at tfabricius@dnusd.org or by calling 707-464-0380.

End of Year Events

As you already know all of our schools have upcoming events. For a complete schedule, visit DNUSD.org/calendars to view spring performances, end‑of‑year ceremonies, and other activities. As for district high school graduations, Sunset High’s graduation is set for Tuesday, June 10 at 6:00 p.m. on the Sunset campus, and Del Norte High School will hold its graduation on Friday, June 13, also at 6:00 p.m at Whalen Field. While some events appear on the district‑wide calendar, the most detailed information is on each school’s individual calendar, accessible through the district website at DNUSD.org. We invite families to check these listings and join us in celebrating students’ achievements.

Sports Update

It has been an amazing spring season for the Del Norte High Warriors as the baseball and softball teams secured undisputed Big Five Conference titles with victories over Eureka. The softball team clinched its third consecutive conference crown, finishing with an impressive 11-1 Big Five record, while the baseball team completed a remarkable turnaround, rising from last place in 2024 to claim its first conference championship since 2014 with a 10-2 Big Five record. These victories mark significant milestones for both programs, solidifying their dominance within the Big Five Conference.

This week, our Varsity Baseball team will travel to Eureka on Thursday, May 15, to compete in the Charles Lakin Baseball Tournament, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM. At the same time, Varsity Softball will head to Arcata for the Charles Lakin Softball Tournament, with their game beginning at 5:00 PM. On Saturday, May 17, our Track and Field athletes will participate in the Redwood Empire Meet at Fortuna High School, with the start time to be determined. As the school year draws to a close, so do our spring athletic seasons. However, Warrior fans can look forward to more exciting action this fall.

Good luck this week Warriors, and remember, you can find more info on all upcoming events at dnhigh.org/sports.

That’s it for this week’s update. See you next week.
