Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of May 11, 2026.

Dates to Remember
First, please be sure to mark your calendars. There will be no school Friday, May 22, or Monday, May 25, in observance of the Memorial Day weekend. After the holiday, school will resume on Tuesday, May 26.

End-of-Year Ceremonies and Events
As we approach the end of the school year, Del Norte schools are preparing for moving-up celebrations, promotion ceremonies, and graduations across the district. These events are an important opportunity to recognize our students’ hard work, growth, and accomplishments. Families can view the full list of end-of-year ceremony dates, times, and locations at dnusd.org/calendars. Please be sure to check your child’s school website for event-specific details that you may need to know.

Spring Dance Concert
Starting this Thursday, Del Norte High School Dance invites our community to attend “Lost in the Shadows,” this year’s Spring Dance Concert. Performances will be held Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16, at 7:00 PM each night in the Crescent Elk Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and free for children 5 and under. We encourage families, staff, and community members to come out and support our talented student dancers as they share their hard work and creativity on stage.

Bus Driver Hiring Information Session
As a reminder, our Transportation Department will be hosting a Bus Driver Hiring Information Session next Monday, May 18, at 3:00 PM, in the IMC at Del Norte Community School, located at 400 West Harding Avenue here in Crescent City.

This session is for anyone interested in learning more about becoming a school bus driver. No prior bus-driving experience is required. Attendees can learn about paid training, job requirements, application support, pay and benefits, and eligibility for the district’s new $5,000 driver incentive.

School transportation is essential for many Del Norte students, and we are looking for dependable, service-minded people who want to help students get to school safely and ready to learn.

Facilities Master Plan Community Input Session
Interested community members are invited to attend a districtwide Facilities Master Plan input session on Wednesday, May 20, at 4:30 PM, in the District Office Board Room, located at 301 West Washington Boulevard. The Facilities Master Plan will help guide long-term facilities priorities and future project planning across the district. Community input is an important part of this process because it helps us understand what matters most to students, families, staff, and the broader community.

We encourage anyone interested in the future of our school facilities to attend.

ELOP Summer Program Registration
Registration for the ELOP Summer Program closes this Friday, May 15. Families who have not already signed up should complete registration as soon as possible. The program is available for Del Norte Unified enrolled TK through sixth-grade students. Incoming TK students may also apply, but they must be pre-registered for the 2026–2027 school year and meet the minimum age requirement for enrollment. You can register your child for TK at dnusd.org/enrollment.

Students in the summer program will receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks while participating in academic activities, STEM, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and field trips, depending on transportation availability. Acceptance notifications will begin going out by May 22. Families can register now for summer fun and learning at dnusd.org/summer.

Del Norte High School Sports Update
And finally, this week in Warriors Sports, we have a light but exciting schedule. On Tuesday, Varsity Baseball takes on Ferndale at the Arcata Ball Park with the first pitch at 4:00 PM.

Competition continues into the weekend as Track and Field travels to Santa Rosa Junior College on Saturday for the Redwood Empire Meet. We’re proud of the continued effort and commitment of our student-athletes and wish them the best of luck this week.

That’s it for this week’s update. We’ll see you next week. Thank you.
