Here is the Superintendent's Update to the Community for 5/5/2025. Click to read more.

Hello, everyone, I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for May 5, 2025. As we begin the last six weeks of school, I want to make sure that your up to date on what’s going on and can plan to join us for a number of great opportunities.

Dates to Remember
First, I want to remind everyone that on Friday, May 23, and Monday, May 26, there will be no school in observance of Memorial Day Weekend.

“Artists Break Barriers” KEET PBS Student Documentary
I also want to let you know that Sunset High’s Graysen Johansen and Savannah Burke take center stage in Artists Breaking Barriers, a new KEET-PBS documentary that follows five North Coast teens as they transform art into civic action. From poetry and artwork to personal growth and public impact, the film captures our students’ inspiring journey to the big screen. Join us for a special hometown screening on May 10 at 6 PM at the Del Norte Community School IMC, where you’ll see behind-the-scenes footage and have a chance to meet the artists in person. Come celebrate youth voice, creativity, and community—bring a friend, and any questions you may have!

E3 Summer Program
Do you know a high school student looking for a summer job opportunity? The E3 Program—Experience, Education, and Employment—is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors looking to earn a paycheck and up to 10 elective credits this summer! Students can pick up an application now at the DNHS Counseling Office, the main offices at Castle Rock, Sunset, or Community School, or at the SMART Workforce Center (875 5th Street). While some school-year activities are winding down, the E3 program is gearing up to help students gain real-world work experience. Don’t wait—applications are due by May 23rd! For more details, check out the E3 Summer Youth Program on Facebook or contact Mr. Fabricius at tfabricius@dnusd.org.

Spring Performances and End of Year Ceremonies
As we approach the end of the school year, all of our schools are planning some great events. We encourage all families to visit DNUSD.org/calendars to stay informed about these upcoming events, including spring performances, end-of-year ceremonies, and other celebrations. While some school events are shown on the district calendar, families are strongly encouraged to visit the individual calendars on each school’s website for a complete list of events. All school websites and calendars are easily accessible through the district site, helping you stay connected and informed. Don’t miss the opportunity to join us in celebrating our students and all they’ve accomplished!

3rd Annual CTE Career Fair
On Tuesday, April 29th, the Del Norte County Office of Education partnered with the Del Norte Unified School District to bring the 3rd Annual CTE College and Career Fair to Del Norte High School. The event welcomed over 40 exhibitors who represented various career and educational opportunities, including colleges, local and regional businesses, military recruiters, and public service agencies. The event provided over 800 students with valuable exposure to both immediate job opportunities and long-term career paths. Students had a wonderful experience, and I want to thank all of our partners who helped to make these valuable opportunities possible for Del Norte students.

Sports Update
Here’s the Warriors’ sports schedule for the week: Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, Track & Field travels to Fortuna for the White Star Championship Trials. The following day, Wednesday, May 7, Varsity Baseball and Varsity Softball head to Eureka, with their games starting at 4:00 PM. Finally, on Saturday, May 10, Track & Field returns to Fortuna for the White Star Championship Meet.

Best of luck to all our teams, and as always, you can find more info on all upcoming events at dnhigh.org/sports.

That’s it for this week’s update. See you next week.
