Update to the Community — 6/1/2026

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of June 1, 2026.

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank our staff, families, and community for your commitment to our students and their education.

These last few days are always a busy time of year as classrooms begin wrapping up and students prepare for transitions, and a meaningful time we all come together to celebrate the hard work and growth that have taken place throughout the year.

Dates to Remember
After today, there are only eight school days remaining before summer break, but remember that every day next week—the final week of school—will be a minimum-day with Thursday, June 11, being the last day of school. The following Monday, June 15, kicks off our extended year program, the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, and Seamless Summer Meals.

Just because school is out doesn’t mean that our staff isn’t still working hard to deliver great experiences and nutritious meals for the youth in our community.

End-of-Year Ceremonies and Events
Del Norte schools are preparing for moving-up celebrations, promotion ceremonies, graduations, and other end-of-year events taking place across the district this week and next week.

These events are an important opportunity to recognize our students’ hard work, growth, and accomplishments. Whether students are moving on to a new grade level, promoting to middle or high school, or graduating, we are proud of all they have achieved. Events kick off this Wednesday with the Community School Graduation and the Del Norte Scholarship Night.

You can view the full list of end-of-year ceremony dates, times, and locations at dnusd.org/calendars. Please also check your child’s school website for any event-specific details you may need.

DNUSD Board Meetings
Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a Board LCAP and budget study session.

In addition to the special meeting, our regularly scheduled District and County Board meetings will be held this Thursday, June 4, at Smith River Elementary School. The County Board begins at 3:00 p.m., and the District Board begins with a closed session at 4:00 p.m., reconvening in open session at 4:30 p.m.

You can attend in person or watch both meetings via Zoom. Agendas and links are available at dnusd.org/agenda

Enrollment
I’d also like to remind you that we are now accepting enrollments for preschool, transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten students.
If you or someone you know has a child who has not yet enrolled, staff will be available at school sites through the third week of June.

After that, registration forms can be picked up at or returned to the District Office at 301 W. Washington Blvd., next to the football field. You can find more information on registrations at dnusd.org/register

That’s it for this week’s update. We will see you next Monday.

Thank you.
