Update to the Community 6/2/2025

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for Monday, June 2, 2025.

It’s hard to believe the last two weeks of school are already here. I want to thank families, staff, and wider community for the vital role you play in helping our students. In the coming days, our campuses will transform into stages of celebration—graduations, promotion ceremonies, and moving-up events—and behind the scenes, teachers, support staff, and safety teams are working in concert to make every gathering welcoming, organized, and secure.

The festivities begin on Friday, June 6, at 3:30 PM with the Del Norte Community School graduation. Tuesday, June 10, at 6:00 PM brings both the Smith River 8th-grade Promotion and the Sunset High School graduation. On Wednesday, June 11, Mountain School’s 8th-grade Promotion starts at 5:00 PM, followed by Redwood’s at 6:00 PM. On Thursday, June 12, Castle Rock opens the evening with its 8th-grade Promotion at 4:00 PM, while Crescent Elk honors two waves of 8th-graders at 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM, and Castle Rock High School caps the celebrations with high school and adult graduation at 6:00 PM. Finally, we finish the week with Del Norte High School’s graduation ceremony at 6:00 PM at Whalen Field.

Thank you, again, for your help and support as we collectively celebrate the students who have worked to achieve this milestone, to each family and caregiver who has encouraged them, and to our community that continues to invest time, talent, and support for every learner’s success.

Dates to Remember
I’d also like to remind you that every day next week—the final week of school—will be a minimum-day and that Thursday, June 12, is the last day of school.

DNUSD Board Meetings
Tomorrow, Tuesday at 1:00 PM, is a board study session, and this Thursday, June 5, is our regularly scheduled district and county board meetings. On Thursday, the county board meets at 3:00 PM, and the district board follows with a closed session at 4:00 PM, reconvening in open session at 4:30 PM. You can attend in person or watch both meetings via Zoom; agendas and links are available at DNUSD.org/agenda.

Enrollment
I’d like to give one final reminder that we are now accepting enrollments for preschool, transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten students. If you or someone you know has a child who needs to enroll, staff will be available at sites through the third week of June. After that all registration forms can be returned to the district office at 301 W Washington, by the football field.

Sports Update
For the final Warrior Sports update of the year, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 3rd, is the Power Tuff Volleyball game with freshmen facing the seniors at 5:00 PM followed by the sophomores facing the juniors.

Then, on Friday, June 6, Del Norte High’s girls will be at Mike Whalen Field for the annual “Powder Puff” football game. Freshmen will challenge the sophomores at 4:30 PM, then juniors will battle the seniors at 6 o’clock. The community is invited to both events. Admission is free.

This is our final update of the year. We will see you next on August 18, the Monday before the start of the 25-26 school year.

Thank you!
