Update to the Community 9/29/2025

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for Monday, September 29, 2025.

Dates to Remember
First, be sure and mark your calendars. Every day during the week of October 13 will be a minimum-day for all K-8 schools for parent-teacher conferences.

School Safety, Belonging & Bullying Prevention
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority at Del Norte Unified School District and the Del Norte County Office of Education. We’re committed to safe, inclusive campuses—and we can’t do it alone. If you see or experience bullying (on campus or online), please tell us at dnusd.org/tip; you can report anonymously, and every submission is taken seriously. Families can also contact their school principal or counselor for support.

Together—as students, staff, and families—we can promote kindness, speak up as upstanders, and ensure every child feels safe, valued, and ready to learn.

The Great California ShakeOut
Also coming this upcoming month—October 16 at 10:16 a.m.—the County Office and District will participate in the Great California ShakeOut, California’s statewide earthquake drill, where students and staff practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On and review evacuation and accountability procedures. These brief drills build calm, confident responses in real emergencies. As we continue strengthening campus safety, we’re also preparing to implement a new Standard Response Protocol (SRP) districtwide at the beginning of 2026, unifying the plain-language actions used by schools, families, and first responders to improve communication during any crisis.

Thank you for supporting preparedness at home—please feel free to talk with your student about Drop–Cover–Hold On and confirm your contact information is up to date so you receive school alerts.
