Freshman Year

Freshman year is the important beginning to your high school career. This year should be used to focus on building your academic resume, explore interests, and creating critical habits for academic success.

A-G Coursework

Most colleges require that students take 4 years of English, 3 years of math, 3 years of science, and 3 years of a world language.  It is important to keep this in mind while selecting coursework.  Your freshman GPA contributes to the final GPA that colleges review as part of the application process, so it is important to maintain good academic standing.

Get Involved

Get involved in extracurricular activities such as sports, volunteering, clubs, and community-based activities. Summer internships are also a great way to get involved and explore future career interests.

Explore

Now is the time to explore future career options. Take a look at resources such as the California College and Career Zone, College Board, and College Fund to look at all the different jobs that are out there. Talk with school counselors about possible Career Pathways and ways to gain exposure through volunteer opportunities, job shadowing, and coursework.
