Monday Update to the Community 5-16-2022
Good Afternoon, I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte County, and welcome to our regular Monday Update.
Dates to Remember
Make sure and mark your calendars for Memorial Day Weekend. There will be no school on Friday the 27th or Monday the 30th. School will resume on Tuesday, May 31st.
Summer Programs Registration
Registration for our summer programs begins soon, we are in the process of finalizing our plans and aligning them with new state requirements. Once finished, we’ll send out sign-up information, so if you are interested, keep an eye on our website, or check this Monday's update next week.
Classified Appreciation Week
Our Board recently adopted a resolution naming May Educator Appreciation Month, and as part of Educator Appreciation month, this week we are celebrating Classified Appreciation week. Classified staff includes staff from food services, instructional assistants, clerical staff, bus drivers, maintenance staff, and so much more. If you would like to learn more about all of our classified staff, and the roles they play within our district, please visit dnusd.org/hr and take a look at the page titled “Classified Resources”. Thank you classified staff for all you do to provide for our students and help them get the most out of their time in school.
District (LCAP) Survey for Parents and Community Members
I want to let everyone know that we are extending the LCAP Community input survey and it will now be open until this Friday at noon. The LCAP is the Local Control & Accountability Plan, which details how specific state funds will be spent to benefit students who are homeless, receiving foster youth services, or are English learners. Many of the items in the LCAP, such as counseling, transportation, district preschool, and music, among others, also serve all students.
The survey is designed to get your input, whether you are a staff member, parent, or community member, about how our district should prioritize its needs and focus its efforts over the course of the next few years. It should take less than five minutes to complete. If you are interested in taking this survey, you can find it posted below this update on our website or at dnsud.org/lcap.
Early Childhood Education Steam Fair
Last weekend, we had an amazing time at our early childhood education steam fair. Our staff and community partners hosted a variety of educational booths that gave children the opportunity to interact with technology, art, nutrition, cultural learning, and much more. Parents also were able to begin the registration process for preschool for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. If you or someone you know would like more information on how they can register their child for preschool, you can visit dnusd.org/ece or call 464-0720. For more information on transitional kindergarten and kindergarten registration, please call us at 464-6141.
Sports Update
As for upcoming home athletic events, there are no home games this week, but we do want to recognize the achievements of the Del Norte High Track and Field team. They won the HDN White Star Championship earlier this month, great job. You can find out more about all upcoming athletic events at dnhigh.org under “student activities''.
That's it for this week’s update. We hope you have a great week, and we’ll see you next Monday.
Thank you
