Did you know that Mountain Elementary School is the only STEM school in Del Norte County? We focus on science, technology, engineering and math. Our teachers are certified to teach Project Lead the Way engineering and science curriculum. This rigorous program engages students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems; empowers them to solve real-world challenges; and inspires them to re-imagine how they see themselves. Our unique program features 1:1 technology, multi grade classrooms, and a small learning community environment. Students receive many special opportunities including weekly hikes for PE, rafting adventures in the spring, and multiple outdoor field trips in our county. Over the past three years our students have shown steady growth in both Language Arts and Mathematics on the California State Standardized tests (CAASPP).
Data science is a topic some students have been studying in math. Students created their own survey, collected and analyzed data and then shared their findings. Check out Rylan’s Data Report and Finch’s Data Report!
Our families are an important part of our school community. We have an active Parent-Teacher Organization and School Site Council. Each trimester we host a student learning showcase and invite families and community members to attend and let our students “show what they know”. We also offer Parent Engagement Parties at trimester where we address topics of concern to families including how to support learning at home, understanding how students learn, and understanding the education system.
On our recent family engagement survey we asked if parents found our Parent Engagement Parties helpful, one parent said,
“It was very informative. I liked that there were discussions about opportunities for improvement and how parents can support that at home. I’ve never had another school take the time to do this.”
We currently have openings for the 20-21 school year in grades K-5. If you would like your child to attend Mountain School and live outside of Gasquet, please complete an intra-district transfer form to be considered for the school intra-district transfer lottery. Forms are due to the district office no later than March 27th. Click here to access the form on the district website.

We know learning starts at home and continues at school and we believe when families play an active role in their child’s education, students will succeed. When families who, regardless of their racial or ethnic identity, educational background, gender, disability, or socioeconomic status, are willing to work together with their child’s school or district, partnerships will flourish and we will raise students who are college and career ready graduates.
