Smith River School is an excellent place to be, learn and grow!

Smith River has made some great academic progress over the last years and I expect that this trend will continue.  English Language Arts scores have increased over the last two consecutive years with last year’s 5th graders increasing the met or exceeded rate by 16%.  The pass rate for Math has also increased and last year’s 3rd graders had a whopping 61% met or exceeded rate. In overall scores, Smith River is ahead of the district average in both English Language Arts and Math.

Smith River is always looking for new and exciting ways to engage our students and community.  One of the programs we utilize is Los Dichos. Los Dichos is a once a month program that brings multicultural bilingual books to our students.  This program allows family/community members to join us at school, read a story and do an activity. When reading the story, one adult reads the story in English, the other adult reads in Spanish.  The activity in the classroom is a culminating experience with the message of the story.

We value well rounded students at Smith River School.  Academics are very important to us and we also need a little fun in our lives.  Students in the 6th-8th grade are afforded many different opportunities to participate in sports.  We offer volleyball, cheer, soccer, girls and boys basketball, and track. We are not a big school, so our students are able to participate in any sport they are interested in and typically do.

Smith River values relationships.  Our students, families and community are very important to us.  We are close-knit and we accept newcomers into our Smith River Family with open arms.  Everyone at Smith River School appreciates the support from our community. We would not be able to do what we do without it.  Our staff also supports the Smith River community in whatever way that is needed.

As much as we love our current students, our past students will always be near and dear to our hearts.  We celebrate their successes and life milestones with them. I am very proud and honored to be a part of the Wildcat family.  And as Mr. Ron Quick always says, “Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.”
