Nick and Lisa Rail Donate 150 Instruments to DNUSD at the DNHS Winter Musical Concert 2022

Nick and Lisa Rail continue to give back to the students of Del Norte County, on January 13th at the Del Norte High Winter Musical Concert, they donated another 150 instruments to Del Norte Schools that have an estimated market value of over $250,000. At the event, Dan Sedgwick, the DNHS band teacher shared, “There are six professional-grade horns and a variety of tier I saxophones, flutes, and trumpets among the donated instruments”.

Del Norte Unified School District has historically faced a shortage of funding and instruments for its music programs. During the event, Sedgwick emphasized that, “This is very exciting, this is all Mr. Rail’s doing, I am just thrilled to be on this journey right now. What is happening with music education in Del Norte County is astounding. These instruments do not all just belong to the high school, but belong to the entire county.”

Nick’s passion for music began as a child while attending school in Del Norte County. That passion continued as an adult where he owned a music business that sold instruments and provided a variety of services to youth. Eventually, the Rails sold their business and moved back to Del Norte County with a focus on making a difference in the lives of students. At the winter concert, Nick commented that,  “Music is truly the universal language, our future is only as bright as the education we provide for our youth.” Nick went on to say, “any child, any student, who wants to play in band will not lose the opportunity to participate because there is not an instrument available”.

The Rails grand vision spans far beyond providing instruments for our students. Working with the Del Norte Unified School District, among many other local partners, they have set out to gather donors to build a state-of-the-art, fully equipped performing arts center to provide students of this county with new and exciting opportunities in dance, music, and drama. The rails themselves have pledged over $1 million dollars to the construction of the facility.
