Update to the Community 5/22/2023

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, the Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte County, and this is the update for Monday, May 22nd.

Dates to Remember

We are quickly approaching the last week of Educator Appreciation Month.  This month, we’ve celebrated the outstanding contributions of all education staff.  May has been a time to express our gratitude to our certificated and classified staff members who make a tremendous difference in the lives of our students every day. We’ll be finishing the month this Friday by celebrating those staff members who are retiring, those who have met service year milestones, and, of course, our school all-stars.  We’re looking forward to a great time with our colleagues, and I want to thank our local businesses and organizations for their donations to the evening.  If you know a school employee, take some time and thank them for their dedication to our youth.

I also want to remind you that the Board of Trustees will be holding their regularly scheduled school board meeting this Thursday.  The meeting will begin at 3:30, with the Board entering closed session at 3:30, and public session will begin at 4:30.

And finally, remember to mark your calendars for Monday, May 29th, as there will be no school in observance of Memorial Day. Please remember to take time this weekend to honor and remember the service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Tiny House Auction

It’s time, again, for the second Del Norte High tiny house auction! The silent auction will run from June 2nd until June 9th at noon. If you're interested in checking out the tiny house before bidding, join us for open house tours on June 3rd and 4th from Noon to 3. The construction class at Del Norte High has worked throughout the year to create this unique tiny house, and all proceeds will go back to the CTE program to fund the next tiny home build.  More information will be coming soon, so plan on taking advantage of this exciting opportunity to own a tiny house and to support our high school career and technical education programs!

Graduations

With the end of the school year drawing near, many families have been looking for information about upcoming end-of-the-year events. For details on preschool, kindergarten, fifth and eighth-grade promotions, and high school graduations, please visit dnusd.org/calendars, or, if you have additional  questions that are school specific, you can reach out directly to your child's school.

That’s it for this week’s update. See you next Monday.
