Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte. This is the update for the week of January 29th, 2024, and it’s a long one!
Important Dates to Remember
First of all, I want to make sure that you mark your calendars for the upcoming President's Day weekend. There will be no school on Friday, February 16 or Monday, February 19, as we honor Presidents’ Day and Lincoln’s Birthday, both national holidays. Students will return to school on Tuesday, February 20.
Heroes in Education
I’m also excited to announce we’ve officially opened nominations for our Heroes in Education nominations. This is a great time to show recognition and appreciation for the important work done by our staff to help each student in our community to achieve their potential. We know that we have exceptional staff in every position throughout our schools, and we want to make sure staff at every level of our educational community is recognized for the work they do. Please remember, when you are nominating employees, that we have certificated employees, including teachers, psychologists, counselors, nurses, etc. and classified employees in a number of departments, including maintenance and operations, nutrition services, transportation, classroom aides, intervention, etc. I’d also like to remind you that you can nominate more than one. So please take a moment to submit a nomination, and let’s celebrate the outstanding Heroes in Education who’ve made a real difference in our community by going to dnusd.org/heroes and completing the nomination form. The deadline for nominations is February 23rd, 2024.
As you might recall, over the past months, we've been working on launching a new and improved website for the District and the County Office of Education, along with all of our schools. This spring, most likely in February, we will unveil the new website. To prepare for this change we conducted extensive conversations with a number of groups, including parents, staff, and the community, on how we could improve the new website. Our goal has been to create a more valuable and accessible online presence, overcoming the limitations of our current site. The new website aims to provide families with an easier to navigate site, which is more pleasant and intuitive, rich in easily accessible resources and information, and upgrades the experience for staff accessing resources. We’re excited about this upgrade and the ways it will benefit staff, students, families, and the community, and we’ll let you know the actual launch date as it gets closer.
