Full school COVID-19 notice

November 10, 2020

Dear Smith River School Families,

I want to start by saying that the health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
Yesterday, we had to place four of our student cohorts in distance learning due to the fact that they had come in close contact with a student or staff member that tested positive for COVID-19. We have already contacted these families and will continue to update them as new information becomes available. Smith River is a small community and a close family, which we all care about. In order to be transparent with our school community it is important for everyone to know that many of our students at Smith River School may have had close contact with students from those four cohorts that have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID 19. At this time, none of these students are currently known to be infected.

DNC Public Health has been notified and is taking further steps. In accordance with DNC Public Health guidance, all other classroom cohorts at Smith River School will continue to operate. The individual and their immediate family/household members are monitoring symptoms and are working with their healthcare provider for additional steps including testing if advised.

We will update you with any additional pertinent information when we receive it. Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms and stay home if you are experiencing influenza-like illness. Please contact your healthcare provider if you have any additional questions or concerns about your child health. However, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s education please feel free to contact me at 707-464-0370.

Sincerely,
Nicole Cochran
Principal
