Superintendent's Message to the Community 4-26-2021

Good Afternoon, I’m Jeff Harris, the District & County Superintendent of schools.
This week I want to start by letting you know that state testing will be very different this year. This Wednesday during our regularly scheduled webinar and on our Friday podcast, Leslee Machado, our director of curriculum, Ryan Batten, the district director of network information services, and Tom Kissinger, the assistant superintendent of educational services will join me to discuss what these changes will look like. We look forward to seeing you there.

For those of you wondering about sports, this Wednesday, there are both softball and baseball games happening, and they will be live-streamed. The Del Norte High track team will compete against Fortuna on Wednesday in Fortuna, but this event will not be live-streamed.

As I’ve said before, we’re in the process of planning graduations. After meeting with all 8th grade and high school principals, our goal is to have all graduations in person to the fullest extent possible. I was also able to speak with Dr. Rehwaldt, our county public health officer, last Friday, and he is extremely supportive of these efforts and of bringing back students to a more normal year next year.

Remember that you can get the most recent COVID positive case updates for schools at dnusd.org/familyresources and click the “COVID-19 Dashboard” or go to covid19.ca.gov for information on the county and state. Remember, too, that the governor has said that the Blueprint for a Safer Economy will expire on June 15.

Finally, you can stay up to date on all of these topics and more by making sure you have an updated email and cell phone number in your child’s school records. You can also download our app, visit us on social media, or get up-to-date information at school and district websites, all of which will be posted below in this message.

That is all for this week’s Monday update, and hope you have a healthy and safe week ahead. Thank you
