Monday Update to the Community 5-2-2022

Good Afternoon, I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte County, and welcome to our regular Monday Update.

District (LCAP) Survey for  Parents, and Community Members

It is officially LCAP season. The LCAP is the Local Control & Accountability Plan. This plan details how designated state funds will be spent to benefit, specifically, students who are homeless, receiving foster youth services, or are English learners.  Many of the items in the LCAP, such as counseling, transportation, district preschool, and music, among others, also serve all students.

The survey is designed to get your input, whether you are a staff member, parent, or community member, about how our district should prioritize its needs and focus its efforts over the course of the next few years. The survey will be open for responses for ten days: from May 2nd, until Friday, May 13th. It should take less than five minutes to complete. If you are interested in taking this survey, you can find it below or at dnsud.org/lcap.

Early Childhood Education Steam Fair

In some fun news, our annual Steam Fair is just around the corner. Families with children ages 0-5 are invited to attend on Saturday, May 14th, between 10 AM and 2 PM in the main building of the Fairgrounds. It is free for families, and children will be able to participate in science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities at a variety of booths. We encourage you to come out and to participate with your child.  You can also register your child for preschool, transitional kindergarten, or kindergarten during the fair. If you want to learn more please visit dnusd.org.

Summer Programs

Last year we had a very successful summer program and we are looking forward to doing it again this year. However, the state has changed a few of the requirements and we are in the process of developing a program that meets those requirements. If everything goes according to plan, we should be opening registration for the program very soon. If you are interested in signing up your child, please keep an eye out for that information on our website, APP, and our future Monday Updates.

Sports Update

As far as sports go, this Saturday at 11 AM the DNHS track team will compete in the White Star Championship Track Meet at Del Norte High. We are in the process of determining if we will be able to live stream this event, please check the Del Norte High website as we get closer to this weekend. You can find out more about all upcoming athletic events at dnhigh.org under “student activities''.

That's it for this week’s update, we hope you have a great week, and we’ll see you next Monday.
