Smith River LCAP Community Input Session 5/18/2021 @ 6 PM - *MUST Pre-Register*
Each year, the State requires that school districts update and/or develop a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). This means that the school district must gather input from a variety of stakeholders to determine the goals, actions, and budget priorities for the district. Most of the funds addressed in our LCAP are what are called supplemental and concentration funds. These funds are based on the number of economically disadvantaged students, foster youth, homeless students, and students who are English Learners.
We will gather input from the community during this meeting that will go into the planning phase of the upcoming LCAP.
When: May 18, 2021, 06:00 PM

Welcome, Bienvenido, Daa-naa∼-yash to Smith River Elementary School,
First, I would like to say that it is a privilege to be the principal of this school. I am currently in my 14th year as an educator in Del Norte Schools. I have appreciatively worked as a teacher and administrator at Smith River Elementary School and at Crescent Elk Middle School. Before my career in education, I proudly served 10 years in the Armed Forces. I am a mother of three children; one of whom graduated 8th grade from Smith River. Therefore, I can truly say that this school is filled with amazing staff, students, and family members, who work hard to support student learning through excitement, curiosity, exploration, and growth.
The Smith River community is truly a special place to raise a child. We welcome parent involvement in educating their children. Children are more successful if parents and the school work as a team to support student learning. We offer a variety of ways for you to be involved in your child’s education. Please come in to find out how you can become a volunteer at Smith River.
As a staff, we are warm and welcoming to all and provide children with the love and respect that you would give your own children. I look forward to getting to know all of you and if ever you need help with your child’s education; I want to remind you that I am here to serve you and I have an open-door policy when needed.
