Training Opportunities

Youth Mental Health First Aid

The program technicians in the youth mental health services department, Zachary Centner and Jennifer Matthews, are certified to train staff in Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a program that aims to educate individuals such as teachers, school staff, caregivers, service workers, and parents how to assist an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health challenge. The program is essentially created for adults who interact with youth on a daily basis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an active approach in suicide prevention. The course provides an understanding of common mental health challenges faced by young people, an overview of typical adolescent development, and a 5-step plan of action on how to support our youth in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Some of the topics include depression, anxiety, disorders that may include psychosis, ADHD, and eating disorders.

Crisis Prevention Intervention Training

CPI teaches professionals the skills to identify, prevent, and de-escalate crises in schools. DNUSD employees who work with students must attend an initial 8-hour training session and renew training by attending a refresher course annually.  Click here to see the CPI Registration Flyer
